Drugs in your water?

Our federal government has been overlooking at least 271 million pounds of pharmaceuticals currently dumped into our waterways by U.S. drug companies and other manufacturers.  These dumped drugs while legally disposed of are still finding their way into our drinking water.

Manufacturing uses pharmaceuticals in making many household items.   Therefore, it is not only pharmaceutical companies dumping these drugs.  Copper is common to contraceptives and pipe making.  Explosives contain nitroglycerin and so do heart medications.  One can find lithium in ceramics as well as drugs to treat bipolar disorder.

There is no record keeping by the Federal government or industrial companies to discover the true extent of the number of pharmaceuticals expelled into our waterways.  In fact only by accident can investigators estimate the amount.  It turns out the government has unwittingly been keeping data on a few of the drugs factories discard.
